Opened in April 2025, Makro Gonubie is the retailer’s first new store in six years and its second in the Eastern Cape. Strategically positioned to serve Gonubie, East London, and Mthatha, the store offers both fresh produce and grocery essentials.

From project initiation to opening, the SGH team completed the development over four years. The development focused on sustainability and innovation. Features include cement brick construction, on-site water storage tanks, backup power generation, and the first integrated CO₂ refrigeration and HVAC system to boost energy efficiency and safeguard perishable goods.
